We All Be CookinAuthor:mercury Viewed:  138
cold brewed iced coffee
 good stuff!

1 1/2 cups water
1/3 cup ground coffee

1. combine in jar and mix well.
2. cover and let stand at room temp for 12 hours.

3. strain through coffee filter or cheese cloth.
4. strain it again.
5. If you've flooded the filter and allowed some of the grinds to overflow, like I did... strain it a 3rd time.

6. pour over ice and dilute with 50% water or milk.

makes 2 servings.

Very yummy! I used milk and thought it needed a little sugar, so I added that, too.

7/9/2008 7:13:32 AM   From:  Ali   A vanilla Starbucks frapuccino sounds like heaven right now. I like my coffee cold, too, so this is a great tip. Thanx merc!
7/9/2008 7:20:55 AM   From:  mercury   chris came home while it was still sitting on the counter and asked if I'd cleaned out the fryer. it's not a real appealing site during the brew process. And for the record: my fryer oil is NOT black! I just changed it less than a month ago!
7/9/2008 7:23:27 AM   From:  mercury   and the really nice thing about the cold brew: no bitterness. none at all.
7/9/2008 8:45:02 AM   From:  eddo   coffee = gross.
7/9/2008 8:49:54 AM   From:  mercury   why doesn't this stuff wire me up like a regular old cup of the hot stuff does? It must have something to do with the hot part... hot chocolate does the same thing to me. I don't feel wired at all and I have have just a little bit of it left from a 16 oz glass.
7/9/2008 10:41:23 AM   From:  Ali   Coffee makes me wired, too. And no one here ever wants to see me after doing Red Bull shots. Holy shit, I was bouncing off the damn walls!
7/10/2008 2:33:10 PM   From:  Peanuts   Ummm.. why don't you just stick a cup of coffee in the fridge for a few hours?
7/11/2008 5:51:11 AM   From:  mercury   heat during the brew makes coffee bitter, especially after chilled.... this keeps the bitterness away. Plus, you can make up a couple batches and keep it ready in the fridge all the time ;o)
7/11/2008 8:08:50 AM   From:  Peanuts   I don't normaly drink coffee but sometimes I like to finish my wife's cold coffee she will leave in the morning. I don't think it's bitter. Of course she uses coffee mate vanilla creamer. Good stuff. If I'm gonna drink coffee it's gotta have coffee mate in it.
7/11/2008 8:44:48 AM   From:  mercury   all I know for sure is that it doesn't upset my stomach like regular brewed coffee does, and I don't get wired as easily... and there are no potential burnings in the cards this way ;o)
